Hohner “arbor series” explorer
A nice explorer from Hohner not a one to one copy but still nice, bought this one as an empty shell, body,
neck and backplate nothing else, and the neck was in need of a refret.
On the positive side, the neck is nice and straight and the body is proberly made
of korina, so a nice project.
I went at it, ordered, bridge, tailpiece, knobs and pots, the rest was already laying
around somewhere in the house
At first i thought that leveling the frets would be sufficient but theseway too far
gone, so ordered some fretwire to,took a week to get all i
Needed and the real work started, luckely the neck is bolt on and whitout binding
so it was a piece of cake to refret this one.
Setneck and binding takes way longer to refret i finished the refret job in about 2
hours now.
Body assembled, twhen i after assembling the neck on the body laid the first
string on it it was clear to me, this was not good, the neck needed to be shimmed,
and a fat shim too, i guess that this guitar was made redundant by the former
owner due to this reason.
Now he’s complete again and everything works, and very important the playabillity
is good, i’m happy i rescued this one.
Plays good and stays in in tune, this is also due to the schaller tuners i used on it.
This is a classy guitar imho with the chrome hardware and this colour, this guitar
goes in my own collection for now also because i don’t own a good looking
explorer model yet.
The only thing i dislike is the hump on the headstock, this is not a great feauture, i guess they did this to
avoid a lawsuit with gibson.
For so far i know these guitars were made by Cort, Cort has a great rep as a builder and a bad one as a boss.
