Truly a strange guitar this Kawai performer, this model was made from 1977/78 to 1982 this guitar is made in a
time that kawai was trying to get rid of their bad name in guitar manufacturing by producing original desings
of a high quality like the aquarius serie.
But their 60’s creations of low quality postalorder guitars already ruined their name and in about 1988 they
decided to stop building guitars ( atleast for the non japanese market) and go on with something they did
have a good rep in, namely building piano’s and other key instruments.
It’s an unusula guitar which makes me think of a parker fly and a odd solidbody model made by rickenbacker,
the bodyshape is very ergonomic, the guitar is good in balance the stringtrough body is made of white ash
and the neck of hard rock maple, so a fairly sharp sounding lady, this is a guitar that costed around 500$ (us)
at that time and that was then a lot of money, so it’s no cheapo.
There is light fretwear, and in the top positiions the finish is worn of the fretboard, so mainly used as a
rhytmn guitar i guess.
The only thing i had to do on this giutar was replacing a ivory coloured humbuckerring for a black one, surely
another addition for my own collection.
