There are a lot of different bridge types for guitars, the most common are the tuneomatic and the fenderstyle bridge.

there are much more variations and models , in past various brands all had their own ideas over that, so sometimes each brand was using a different type of bridge.

The simplest bridge is this primitive bridge a simple rod with 6 slots in it for the strings and adjustable in height.

Intonation is not possible so you better hope that the intonation is good enough.

When you use the right size of strings for which it’s designed, mostly it’s acceptable.

But if you use another string gauge that can give some problems,

this type of bridge was widely used on cheap guitars in the 60’s and 70’s.

another simple bridge is the loose bridge like used on archtops and jazzboxes, intonation is

possible but only limited, the

high and low E can be

intonated exactly by moving the

bridge, but for the other

strings you only can hope that

their intonation is good too.

Another simple and difficult to intonate bridge is a kind of roller bridge, used a lot in the 60’s by japanese builders.

It’s a simple tread with six rollers, intonation is only limited possible by rolling the rollers sideways.

Which also causes for uneven string distance what is not pleasant playing.

these days you also see a lot of pre-intonated bridged like used

by PRS, me personally don’t understand why PRS chooses to use this type of bridge.

changing string gauge can cause problems because intonating

is not possible, this is a so called wrap around bridge.

There are also wrap around models that can be intonated.

Very common bridge type, good to

intonate, but can be difficult to

get spot on due to the limited

movement available for the saddles.

This type is widely usedon gibson

style guitars, there are more models available of this bridge too, like the wide model which is good to intonate.

A very common bridge type, used on various types of guitars, whit and whithout tremelo, all saddles are individual adjustable in height and intonating is no problem.

In a way the perfect bridge.
