This one was free, a gitaarNetforum member gave it to me, he happens to be at that time the manager of nederland muziek a big guitarshop in almere. So had to do a drive for it but free is always good even if it costs you a tank full of gas. Back home went to work on it straight away, stripped it and attacked it with thinner, he was painted blue allover, and a tough paint they used also, wrapped it in cloths soaked with thinner and brakefluid to soften up the paint, after a few hours i could scrape it of easely, only the paint on the neck (7 pieces) came of very easy, didn’t needed to scrape there a cloth with thinner was enough to remove it all. To strip it was a hell of a job, but because the orignal paint was almost undamaged (okay heavy cracked of age) beneath it. was this the only way sanding and polishinguntil al the blue and the black under that were gone. This cracked finish gives this guitar tons of karakter, that’s why i wanted to preserve it. Now it’s again a good looking red 60’s guitar, still has some work tobe done on it. The 0 fret had to be replaced, some frets need leveling (not that necessary), tone pot needs replacing, thank god it’s the only normal pot on the guitar. And have to make a tremelo arm for it, that’s missing as usual. |
